Perception and Consequences Associated with Self-Medication Practice among Nnamdi Azikiwe University Undergraduates

Self-medication implies the use of any medicine for treatment ailments without a physician’s prescription. This study investigated perception and consequences associated with self medication practice among Unizik undergraduates. The was designed as survey. population comprised all undergraduate students Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Anambra State. (30,917). A sample 390 respondents selected from this population. Questionnaires were personally administered to Unizik. Major findings indicate that large number perceive self- medicated drugs are effective one prescribed by physicians. That respondents’ major ailment is Malaria. And mostly treat malaria using Lokamal Antimalarial drug. On medication, discovered majority aware have experienced dizziness medication. concluded has also extent consequence medicating. It however suggests health education on self-medication should be introduced into curriculum so enlighten unregulated practice.
